History
The Shree Swaminarayan Temple (ISSO) in Norwalk, California, was inaugurated on December 10, 2000, marking it as the fifth temple of the International Swaminarayan Satsang Organisation (ISSO) established in the United States.
Historical Timeline
- 1978: Spiritual activities (Satsang) began in the Los Angeles area following the first visit of His Holiness 1008 Shree Tejendraprasadji Maharaj to the USA.
- 1980s–1990s: A small group of families envisioned a traditional Mandir to preserve Hindu culture and spirituality for future generations. Despite various construction hardships, the project moved forward under the guidance of the Nar Narayan Dev Gadi.
- December 10, 2000: The temple was officially consecrated. The day began with a grand five-hour procession from the Cerritos College parking lot, featuring elaborate floats for the deities and saints.
- 2025: The temple celebrated its Silver Jubilee (25th Patotsav) from November 23–29, marked by the raising of the Patotsav flag and a week of commemorative spiritual events.
Consecration Details
The Murti Pratishtha (installation ceremony) was performed by H.H. 1008 Shree Tejendraprasadji Maharaj, who installed the idol of Lord Harikrishna Maharaj with a “divine and emotion-packed embrace”. The ceremony drew thousands of devotees from India, the UK, Canada, and Australia.
